Dark matter
Skin taunt, lithe like a deer
I touch you while you sleep, you don’t move
I roll back over, eyes wide fixed on nothing
Feeling you’re here, knowing you’re not
When did I lose you?
What do you dream of? Who do you dream of?
Where? Here? But not with me
Never with me
I’m an anomaly, a blip, a complication
A crease to be ironed out
When you get round to it
I should make it easy for you
A proud, dignified man would leave
But I’m a coward, unable to cut the cord
Here in the darkness we lie
We’re together, yet have never been further apart
Maybe the dawn will bring the ‘conversation’
The “it’s not you, it’s meâ€
But of course it’s me, I know that
I let you down
I promised so much, delivered so little
The dinners, the conversation
Flowers, chocolates, letters
For no other reason than I could
Now barely a “love you†in a text
You deserve better
You deserve the dignified man
But I’ll just lie here, eyes wide fixed on nothing
Feeling you’re here, knowing you’re not
Waiting for the conversation
