occasionally acerbic, cultural and political comment

Sphere: Related ContentI went to an aquarium this weekend with the kids.
Not my pic obviously, but wonderful nonetheless.

Top Ten Magazines
Private Eye – indispensable for the politically minded (and worth it just for the Street of Shame media pages)
The New Yorker – excellent if you have time on your hands; beautifully presented and insightful essays (see also Vanity Fair)
The New York Review of Books – wonderful, brilliant, unequalled
EDGE – ‘Digital Culture,’ or as we on planet Unpretentious call it, “gamingâ€
The Financial Times Arts & Weekend magazine – easily the best of the supplements
National Geographic TRAVELER - worth it for the photography, and some excellent tips for the traveller
Singletrack – quarterly cycling magazine, difficult to track down. Again the photography is brilliant
The New Statesman – better for the revamp, and still occasionally controversial
Mojo – the best music magazine not called Rolling Stone (and their free CD’s are excellent)
Monocle – A new one this. If fact it made the list on the strength of one issue. If this magazine delivers on its remit as a Der Spiegel for the anglosphere (a stylish and culturally savvy world briefing), then it has itself another subscriber
Sphere: Related ContentWhen I first visited Tallinn, a few years ago, I took Mrs. tyger to this Chinese restaurant. it was tasty. It’s not far from the main Viru entrance to Old Town (just along the town wall), and very much recommended.
Sphere: Related ContentI realised when I got home last night that my Sony K800i cell phone’s camera was set at 2MP. It has a max of 3.2MP, and I have a 1GB M2 MemoryStick, so there really is no excuse. Still they’re not too bad.
Sphere: Related ContentI fly back to England tomorrow. I have just uploaded some photos to my flickr account, but there will, I promise, be more posted when I get chance.
It has been a great break. I haven’t had chance to write as much as I would have liked, but it has been great to spend time with my family. The snow had blanketed Tallinn like a fairy-tale and it has been a beautiful week. I can’t wait to move here for good.
If anyone needs a writer in Tallinn - drop me a line.
I’m on the laptop in WAYNES’S COFFEE. I am on my second large green tea and have just polished off a cherry muffin. Muffins are my weakness, and I would take a blueberry one over any snack in the world.
I hope this post finds all my readers well and normal tygerland service will resume on Sunday.
Sphere: Related ContentSorry if the blog is a bit lightweight today, just very busy and gearing up for flying out to Tallinn on Saturday. As ever, I’ll be travel-blogging from the Estonian capital (obviously the shot is from San Fran, not Tallinn, which indeed has its own tram system).
