The U.S. was thrust into a leadership position due to European recklessness. The various international organizations set up, including the U.N. benefited America. That th e U.S. has lost sight of why it is powerful, and what the power rested on is due to ignorance, fear, avarice, nationalism. Though we are certainly blowing it as far as maintaining our leading position. Worst case scenario in my view still leaves us with North America. I personally do not believe in conspiracies in within government or without. The main reason being that people are not honest enough, diligent enough, or reliable enough to carry one out of time. We do have poor people here, they have crappy cars, a dry place to live are typically overweight and have obsolete electronic doodadds. Anyway... the dollar could collapse one day. I think you fella's have gone beyond what the evidence will support. Cheers.

I think that it is a possibility that United States could well fall apart within when life time. Considering the level of poverty, racial segregation, and the politicaly disenfranchised.

The US wanted to be 'top dog' even before Bretton Woods in 1971.

They still want to be 'top dog' - look at their continuing contempt for the United Nations.

It was an ambitious plan, which could have worked if there had not been such a numbskull of a President and (former) Prime Minister.

As it is, their 'New World Order of Full Spectrum Dominance' (aka world-domination) is in tatters, and the regime has become a barbaric pariah across the globe.

We are witnessing the Rise and Fall of the American Empire - but they won't go quietly - not with every WMD (imaginable & unimaginable) at their disposal.

Empires come and go - but this one will go and take many with it.

America would suffer a relative decline simply by virtue of progress elsewhere. Yet it seems Bush & Co. is forcing an absolute decline. The outcome of the war in Iraq is irrelevant. It is the squandering of resources and attention in Iraq, Iran, North Korea and other peripheral and irrelevant places that sap our strength. Additionally America's seeming inability to respect our own friends. In 1971 we scrapped the Bretton Woods currency agreement; this was a disaster. Also by that time, 25 years after WW2, America should have begun bringing in our allies views on important decisions and allow Allied command over some American Forces. Unfortunately, Bush & Co. are not done yet...
