Make no mistake about it, this is a clear defeat for western, globalised capitalism. They wanted an Iraq that was open to capitalist exploitation, where nothing of any political importance was even discussed. Politics would be reduced to a debate over which part of the economy would be next on the auction block. The Iraqis have put paid to that load of old wank, and all the spin in the world isn’t going to alter that fact.
