penguin launches the .htaccess project

If you host your own blog (i.e. you have your own URL and hosting plan) and have been inundated with spam comments, Political Penguin’s .htaccess project may be of use.

Basically the concept creates a gatekeeper that stops dodgy IPs from entering your site. It doesn’t just stop them commenting, it stops them from viewing your site full-stop - meaning they’re not sucking up all your precious bandwidth. Sweeeeet.

If you want to get involved, learn how to edit your .htaccess file (it’s easy peasy), and share evil IPs, get in touch with the Penguin, or drop me a line.

Hey, it’s not launched yet. I have to do all the guides and how-to’s yet. Or are you trying to keep me busy tonight? :)

    Hi James,

It’s aimed at people who have their own hosted site (i.e. pay for hosting). And therefore can access their database. If you’re hosted at blogspot, I don’t think you can access your .htaccess file.
