Gaulism. RIP

Le Monde: Nicolas Sarkozy is elected president of France with a significant majority. You always get the government you deserve.

I’m taking bets on the timing of the first riot, if you’re interested…

    Yup.

The trick is to watch the weather forecast. Once it hits the 30s, those banlieues will start to kick off…

57% vs 43% isn’t very significant. The problem is that the Socialists re divided in Fance and apparently many have voted Sarcozy and others not voted altogether.

And the outcome reflects a deep division among the French, although the participation (85%) seems to be the great news.

I just noticed comment moderation is activated and had thought I hadn’t sent the first post. Please delete either.
    Thank you.

    Hi Jose,

They were sent to the SPAM bin. Maybe it was the repeated use of “%” or some other keyword.

It’s getting very annoying now. Getting about a thousand a day. I’m thinking about some sort of solution, maybe involving registering or an intelligence test (i.e. type a word into a box)

I notice I made another mistake because in fact it was 53% vs 47%, six percentage points, which in 85% of participation doesn’t seem to be an important difference.

Ah, the first riot is already underway, you can set your watch by these French fellows.

Sarkozy´s got his work cut out, Chirac backed off every time the trouble lasted longer than a week, let´s see what the new boy can do.

Yes, MrZhisou, let’s see. I anticipate there’ll be interesting developments in France and Europe with Sarkozy, only France will be very busy trying to placate its nationals…and immigrants.
