Orwell: 1984 ‘could’ happen, not ‘will’ happen

Richard has dug out George Orwell’s “STATEMENT ON ‘NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR” and has reproduced it for your consumption, here.

Good work Richard. A true gem.

    Orwell’s last-known published words (June 1949) :

“DON’T LET IT HAPPEN. IT DEPENDS ON YOU”

Why have these last words never been put on the Internet until now - except a ‘casual’ mention by Timothy Garton Ash in 1996 ?

In an attempt to reason why, an ungodly can of worms is now likely to open up on both sides of the Atlantic - and not before time.

The CIA is one such worm…the biggest one in the can so far…

And here are some smaller worms crawling out :

The Henry Jackson Society and the Euston Manifeso Group :

I stand corrected - there are a number of other references to Orwell’s “Don’t let it happen. It dependson you” - as well as Timothy Garton Ash (1998 not 1996).

But none have identified these words as Orwell’s last-known published words - until now.

That is what makes these words so significant - in my view - and I am still reeling from astonishment that this has not been brought out before by others.

The biggest factor in all this can of worms is not our “leaders’” conscious wickedness, but their STUPIDITY - most of them [certainly including Blair] really believe the twaddle they spout about ‘defending liberty’, ’spreading democracy’ etc. etc. This makes combatting their mistaken policies even more difficult than if they were deliberate humbugs.

Doublethink born out of a ‘good’ education, AC.

Yes, I don’t think they are wicked, or at least not wicked “by themselves”, but they are not stupid either.

It’s a “manner of being” in accordance with the circumstances. They have been instructed to do “something” and they just toe the line by any means. I think those who believe them are yet more stupid.

And I must add that “manner of being” contrives to fill their pockets.

“Blairaqi” and ‘Bliar’ apologists will continue to “fill their pockets” - but now those pockets won’t be so full.
