Intel Breakthrough

It could just be industry hype, but Intel claim that they have had a major breakthrough with a new generation of energy-efficient processor (CPU). Intel claims that while the chip has been developed for use in computers (Macs!), the low energy consumption means it would also be ideal for other portable consumer devices (cell-phones or PDAs). IBM, still presumably smug about its new Cell chip, have reacted to the news by promising a similar breakthrough in Q1 of 2008.

Oh, and Intel promises they’re quick too. Although is does seem Intel has got over its obsession with clock speed, and realised the best chips are smart and efficient, not necessarily flash and hungry.
