The Da Vinci Code **********

Shhh! Everyone’s asleep. Mrs. tyger has opted to use tyger jnr’s snooze time to get some shut-eye herself. Meanwhile I, always looking to exploit such moments of personal tranquillity, have decamped to the kitchen for a cup of tea and a sandwich. As I write I am munching on a salmon and cucumber sandwich, which, if you were here, I would gladly share.

The wind is blowing a gale outside, so we decided, or rather our idle procrastination dictated, that we would spend the morning lazing in the apartment and allowing the boy to potter around cheerily and then have a long nap in the afternoon. Bliss.

I watched The Da Vinci Code last night on DVD. If you have read the books, as I have, you will find the film a pleasant diversion, which fleshes out your interpretation of the novel. If you haven’t seen it however, you will find the film a rambling dark mess. Don’t say you haven’t been amply warned.

Also Tom Hanks is not Robert Langdon, who I always had down as an early 1980’s Robert Redford. I was not, and will not be, convinced otherwise. The utterly scrumptious Audrey Tautou was awkward but tolerable as Sophie, and this was nothing like as good as her performance in Amélie, which is one of cinema’s real treasures.

Give it a miss, unless you really have nothing better to do.

I have yet to see a bigger load of absolute crap.

I went to see this in the cinema, I want both the money back and the two odd hours of my life.

    It was excruciating to watch.

Everyone involved should be ashamed for the part they played.

I suggest you see Daredevil; surely the worst film ever made.

Almost my exact sentiments after Daredevil.

Incidentally, my brother-in-law was so outraged at the sub-standard quality of the most-recent White Stripes album, that he intends to seek out Jack White next time he’s in England, and personally hand the offending record back to him personally. He doesn’t want a refund, just to make his displeasure clear.

We’ve just watched ‘Jack and Sarah’ on Channel 4 Films (an Anglo-French film in the Richard Curtis mode with Richard E Grant etc).

It beats the crap out of any over-hyped ‘blockbuster’ trash…

Actually, I have seen that trainwreck, or as hollywood calls it “film” unfortunately.

Luckily I did not pay for cinema, Sky Movies, however, I got to 20 mins before feeling the pain was too much.

I sat through DaVinci, thinking (and even praying) that it would turn good (I mean Hanks is usually credible) but no, it robbed me blind of 2 hours and £5.50.

The film-makers should be shot and possibly Hanks, shame on him for this monstrosity.

BTW Richard, I agree many independent films always knock the socks off the blockbusters, thats why Martin “where’s my frickin Oscar” Scorsesee is abandoning Hollywood to make smaller budgeted films from an independent line. GIven that the studio took a chance with The Departed I await his next film (The Departed is, without doubt one of the best of the year, and should get Marty that little trophy after being denied for so long).

While were on the “films” subject, recently saw ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley” without doubt, Micheal Collins is better.
