Quite a turn of events over in Macon, Mississippi, where Ike Brown, Chair of his county’s Democratic Executive Committee, is being prosecuted by the federal government on charges of suppressing the votes of whites.
Mr. Brown is coolly dismissive of the case against him. He has no office at the white-columned Noxubee County Courthouse, but that is where he casually greets visitors, in a chair near the entrance. A loquacious man, he both minimizes his own role and portrays himself as a central target. Far from being the vital orchestrator portrayed by the government, “when I was in Maxwell prison in ’95 and ’96, the show went right on,†he said.
There are so few whites in the county, Mr. Brown suggests, that the tactics he is accused of are unnecessary to keep blacks in office.
“They can’t win anyway unless we choose to vote for them,†he said with a smile. “If I was doing something wrong — that’s like closing the barn door when the horse is already gone.â€
I do wonder why the federal government has failed to take such measures against similar claims against blacks in Florida, or to check the questionable reliability of electronic voting machines in Ohio? It wouldn’t be politically motivated, would it?

That a black be ignored by the whites is not news. News is that a black ignores the whites. That is what I infer of this attitude in the U.S. I don’t how many million blacks there are in the US, I guess they will be more than hispanos whose total is about 38 million. In sum perhaps half the total population of the States. I’ll have to look it up.
According to the American Census of 1999, the total of blacks in the US was 35 million.Non-hispanic whites were 193 million.

It is estimated that in 2050 this figure will grow to 103 million approx.
As both black and hispanic populations have a growth rate higher than that of whites, perhaps the situation in a century - if no ethnic cleansing is carried out before and poverty and disease are eventually erradicated - will show whites as a remarkable minority.
