Bloggers under the spotlight

The John Prescott tempest has been widely credited to conservative bloggers, even if those in the know are aware it’s those Brownite scallywags who are really behind it all. Ned Temko writes today on the impact of bloggers, and their fractious relationship with TV and the tree-based-media.

From the MediaGuardian:*

Robinson’s blog put it best, describing the Prescott story as ‘an example of some blogs trying to make the political weather.”

I would rebuke this, but Guido did it so much better, here, when he said he “doesn’t make the sleaze, he just sails in it,” jolly well said my fellow; your politics may whiff, but as a mudslinger, you take some beating.

On Friday the Hansard Society announced it would be holding a seminar this month on whether Westminster is ‘ready for the age of participatory media’ - a fancy term for the internet bloggers, chatters and ‘community’ sites.

I’m not sure Westminster has much choice in whether it is “ready” for the blogosphere, we’re here, and we’re not going anywhere. If politicians are not ready for the impact of participation media, then they’ll get burned, and they’ll damn well deserve it too. Evolve or die amigos.

With respect to the obvious genuine bloggers, Harry, Guido and Iain, could Mr. Temko have picked a more mainstream bunch of tree-based-media types, even if he tried? Thanks for the plug, brainiac.
