Aznar’s family firm, Famaztella S. L. (a composite of his and his wife’s last names – Aznar and Botella), has been receiving 120,000 euros a year since September 2004 from News Corp. as consulting fees. Aznar, who has been a member of Spain’s National Council since April 2005, never declared this income to the proper government agency since he felt the company was only engaged in family business. The situation is currently under investigation according to the Spanish press.

I see it this way. Aznar says his company gave occasional services to Murdoch, for which it received €12,000 a month. If the State Council had not warned Aznar he would still be there. Now that he has gone from the government Murdoch has engaged him to the Board of Directors. I suppose those €12,000 be cancelled from now on. Even for Murdoch two salaries is too much.
The whole episode reeks of the gutter.
Politics reeks nowadays, Tyger. Perhaps electors are so used to that stench that they cannot make out where it comes from.
