Brazil 0 - 1 France

World Cup

If France plays like that in the Semi Final, they deserve the title. For all the bluster about Argentina, and pre-tournament hype about Ronaldinho etc., Zidane proved why he is the best player since Maradona. Sublime control, awesome vision, and the sheer audacity to chip the ball over the heads of some of the best players in the world, Zidane is a legend and has just illuminated this World Cup.

I must admit, I thought the Frenchman had lost it and was unable to reach the heights of 1998, but I am delighted to be proved wrong. Ronaldinho in my opinion, and this has view has caused quite a few arguments before now, has always been overrated. He was average at PSG and is often substandard for Barca.

It’s a shame Zidane must retire soon, but old legs are a reality that can’t be ignored. I just hope he’s got a couple more performances like last night in the locker, if he has, then France should win the title. I have said from the start that I want Germany to win if England get dumped out, and part of me still does (for post German reunification social reasons), but France were delightful last night, and if the Beautiful Game is to stand for anything, let it be simple, brilliant football. Last night France were simply brilliant.
