A good write-up, on the reality behind the media-bias nonsense, over at Bruised Orange, here.
Sphere: Related ContentHere’s my take on it, for what it’s worth; there is no monolithic entity called the American Media. I discovered this most clearly when I lived in NYC. I felt (and still feel) that the NY Times was far too left-wing for my tastes, so I read the NY Post. For every Yin in the NYC media, there was a Yang. The Village Voice offset the Wall Street Journal, Fox News offset NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, PBS and NPR. The fact is, most media outlets play to their core demographic and advertisers and ad agencies know which outlet to go to in order to best target their market and maximize their ad dollars. Brooks Brothers could advertise in the NY Press and Urban Outfitters could advertise in the Wall Street Journal and still hit some of their customers, but it wouldn’t be optimal. The same is true of the major web sites; dKos or Michelle Malkin? Where would you advertise your goods? The only real unbalanced sources are the web seach portals like Yahoo!, Google and Netscape. They are unabashedly liberal, and there is no other choice at this point.
Yes, it’s a fair observation.
As an aside to this subject, what I find very distasteful is the use of Video News Releases (VNR’s) that are place within TV news shows, unsourced, and put out as real news items. They’re also known as Fake TV News and are used by corporations and government agencies to subliminally spout their propaganda.
Very deceptive and scary.
